‘Stay true to the spirit’: Police reform activists say change requires determination, time

From the Black Panthers in Oakland in the 1960s to protesters in Akron, Ohio, today, police reform activists say their work takes time, commitment, collaboration and struggle. “The way that people can be active is to seize control of the moment and get something done that takes us one step further,” said Elaine Brown, a former top leader of the Black Panther Party. “We have the power of the people. Once we’re organized and together, we really can make the kinds of changes that we want to make.”
