St. Louis police association expands, holds collective bargaining union to task
In St. Louis, the Ethical Society of Police – a predominately Black and brown police association – has pushed for accountability for officer misconduct and brought attention to the culture of police unions and the lack of reform unions have implemented. It’s separate from the St. Louis Police Officers Association – the collective bargaining union. “There is a need for separate unions, if you will, because who can speak up better for us than us?” said Shanette Hall, a former officer with the St. Louis County Police Department.
